About Lilburn Georgia

The City of Lilburn is located in Gwinnett County, Georgia, about 20 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. According to the U.S. Census of 2000, Lilburn had a population of 11,307 and a total area of 6.2 square miles. At that time, there were 3,943 households containing 2,835 families, the median age of residents was 35, the median annual income for a household was $53,707 and the median annual income for a family was $62,563. In July of 2007, the population was estimated to have increased to 11,526 and the median household annual income was estimated at $56,600. Slow, controlled growth with a concurrent increase in income is a distinctive characteristic of Lilburn’s demographics.

U.S. Route 29 is the main road leading from Atlanta to Lilburn. The average one-way commute from Lilburn to Atlanta takes 34 minutes, 80% of commuters drive their own car alone, 15% carpool with others, and nobody utilizes mass transit because public bus service is not available on Route 29.

Old Town Lilburn is a quaint and historic area containing many old buildings with antique shops, thrift shops, gift stores, and many different kinds of restaurants. The old railroad tracks that run through Old Town Lilburn create an ambiance reminiscent of the 19th century.

At the center of Lilburn is City Park. This 10 acre public park contains two tennis courts, walking and jogging paths, and a children’s playground with an exciting array of new equipment that was designed for children’s safe enjoyment. The Bandstand area in City Park is where many community festivals and events such as Lilburn Idol, Music on Main, and Lilburn Daze are held.

Lilburn has a low cost of living index and a high quality of life

Lilburn's cost of living is 14.25% lower than the U.S. national cost of living index, and there has been a positive increase of 2.82% in Lilburn’s job market. Residents of Lilburn are served by the Gwinnett County Public School system and Lilburn’s public schools have an average of only 14 students per teacher. Three branches of the Gwinnett County Public Library are in Lilburn. One is at 2780 Five Forks-Trickum Road, another is at 788 Hillcrest Road, and the third is at 1210 Pounds Road.

Lilburn’s residential housing market is healthy and price to value is very good because homes were constructed with high quality craftsmanship and property sizes are relatively large compared to other suburban communities in the Atlanta Metropolitan area. Neighborhoods are quiet, beautifully landscaped and well maintained. Lilburn’s rural, small town community lifestyle and its close proximity to Atlanta’s downtown business district have created one of the most attractive residential real estate markets in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area.
