Lilburn Visitor Guide
U.S. Route 29 is the most direct road from Atlanta to Lilburn, and it is accessed from Interstate 285 at exit 38. As Route 29 leaves Atlanta in the northeast direction, it runs past Decatur and Clarkston, through Tucker, and on to Lilburn where it is also called the Lawrenceville Highway because it leads to Lawrenceville. The speed limit on U.S. Route 29 generally does not exceed 45 mph as it winds through some beautiful Georgia countryside before arriving at a cluster of historic buildings from the 1930’s in Old Town Lilburn.
Old Town Lilburn contains intriguing antique and thrift shops, stores featuring local crafts, and many restaurants offering a wide variety of cuisines. It’s a great place to experience the vibrancy of the local community and the friendly Southern hospitality that is characteristic of Lilburn. The Bandstand area in City Park at 76 Main Street behind the Calvin Fitchett Municipal Complex is where many community festivals and events such as Lilburn Daze are held.
The annual Lilburn Daze festival features more than 200 booths with local arts and crafts, a health fair, many food concessions, and a children's carnival area with pony rides, face painting, clowns and other costumed theme characters. Lilburn Idol is another popular annual event held at the Bandstand where contestants compete in a singing competition for an enthusiastic crowd of people from all over the Atlanta Metropolitan Area.
One of Atlanta’s most popular tourist attractions is the Yellow Game Ranch
The Yellow Game Ranch in Lilburn is a 24-acre, forested petting zoo that overflows with opportunities for family fun. Visitors can touch and feed bunnies, kid goats, sheep, white-tailed deer, buffalo, and an astonishing number of newborn animals. One of the largest herds of buffalo east of the Mississippi River can be seen on the Yellow River Game Ranch’s back meadow, and visitors can also walk along a mile-long trail leading through areas where newborn fawns wander up to meet people. At the Billy Goat Gruff Memorial Bridge, huge bears stand up to greet people in the hope of receiving special treats. The Yellow Game Ranch is located at 4525 Highway 78, (770) 972-6643.
