Lilburn City Government and Police Department
The City of Lilburn operates under a City Council/City Manager form of government. City Council members and the Mayor are elected officials. The City Council appoints a City Manager who is responsible for overseeing the city’s daily operations and implementing the general policies that are established by the City Council. A consistent theme in Lilburn’s policy for future development is the idea of partnership between residents, businesses, and government with the common goal of making Lilburn an even more beautiful community in which to live and work. Because the pattern for Lilburn’s residential development has already been determined, much of the focus is on revitalization plans for downtown Lilburn.
The Planning Commission works with the Downtown Development Authority
Established by state law, the Planning Commission's primary function is to ensure that all development complies with Lilburn’s technical, environmental and aesthetic standards. The Planning Commission’s meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Calvin Fitchett Municipal Complex Auditorium are open to the public. Proposed plans for business development are reviewed, public input is invited, and approvals are issued based upon the Commission’s evaluation of the proposed plan’s compliance with Lilburn's zoning regulations and its impact on the General Plan for development.
The Downtown Development Authority also studies proposed developments and provides impact reports to the Planning Commission. Part of the DDA’s job is to encourage new business development and provide helpful information to potential business owners. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM in the Calvin Fitchett Municipal Complex Auditorium. To contact the Downtown Development Authority, call City Hall at (770) 921-2210. City Hall is located at 76 Main Street in downtown Lilburn.
The Neighborhood Improvement Department enforces Lilburn’s zoning, nuisance, building, and property maintenance codes in order to improve and stabilize neighborhoods, protect property values, and promote a healthier and safer environment. This department is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and can be reached by phone at City Hall.
The Lilburn Police Department
The Lilburn Police Department is also located at City Hall. With 28 full time police officers on staff, their official mission is to enhance the quality of life in the City of Lilburn by working cooperatively with the community to promote a safe and secure environment, resolve problems, preserve the peace, and uphold the law. The Lilburn Police Department’s average response time for routine calls is 5 minutes and their average response time for emergency calls is less than 3 minutes.
